This is a full day for the entire family with a visit to both a Christmas Market and the incredible Frederiksborg Palace.
- If you enjoy Christmas Markets at medieval castles and visit a unique Renaissance palace, this tour must be the epitome of that wish.
- OpheliaTours will bring you the Christmas Marked at Kronborg Castle, the medieval castle that inspired Shakespeare to write Hamlet and Ophelia.
- We have planned for 3 hours at the Kronborg Castle so you can enjoy both the Christmas market and have time to explore the castle itself.
- There are both do-it-yourself and individual stalls in the courtyard of the castle.
- While you are at the Christmas Market the ticket of course also includes full access to the Castle itself.
- Unfortunately, we can not do guided tours due to the Christmas Market that day.
- A short intro will be made by your driver on the way into the Kornborg Castle.
- After Kronborg Castle, the tour goes to the town of Hillerod.
- In Hillerod you have 3 hours, so you would have some time to see the Frederiksborg Placae and maybe get some lunch or have a short walk along the walking street in Hillerod to soak in some local Christmas atmosphere Danish Style.
Food and beverages – Danish Style (Christmas Style)
The following is important to know about Danish Christmas food and cookies/sweets:
First things first;
- Danish and Scandinavian Christmas food and sweets originate mainly from the late 1700s to mid-1900s and some even long before.
- Pork in a variety of ways is mixed in and used in both food and cookies.
- Then forget about gluten-free. There is very very little chance to get gluten-free products.
- Lactose-free – not really. It’s generally not a big thing Christmas or not.
- Sugar, yes of course, and the more the merrier.
- Nuts, almonds, spices, and fruits, knock yourself out, it is in the products.
- Alcohol drinking alcohol and beer is for the average Dane and Northen citizen a natural way of living. So there is alcohol in the beer and glögg!
- Low cholesterol and low-calorie food or sweets. It’s Christmas in Denmark. So just don’t even think about this.
- Eating sweets, and food and having a beer or some glögg while you walk around in the courtyard. That’s why it is outdoor. [please don’t eat or drink inside unless in designated areas.]
